THE STORY
This is a horror film based on a creature called SIGBIN, a local legend in the Philippines, specifically in Cebu province’s southernmost towns. Though it remains a monster of myth, many here still find themselves astonished to hear stories of old and of present from people who have “encountered” the creature. It would actually be crazy if we manage to see a real one during production. Our submission to the 2025 Show Low Film Festival in Arizona, USA and other film festivals will then have an amazingly true substance. And so we ask you to partner with us as we journey in exploring the mystery of this creature.
SYNOPSIS
Somewhere in southern Cebu, in an isolated settlement, Sitio Sambag, its residents are plagued by what they consider to be monster attacks in the past weeks. They believe that a SIGBIN belonging to a local orphan and farmer of considerable temperament, DEGUL, is the source of the problem. Degul lives remotely atop Sambag’s mountain ever since his abusive foster parents passed away. No one has seen the Sigbin but everyone believes it exists.
Meanwhile, in the adjacent barrio, newly wed PIA is left alone by her husband due to an emergency work assignment in another province. The Sigbin rampage continues in the succeeding days towards the direction of her home. Without anyone’s help and knowledge of what she is dealing with, Pia is forced to face the threat by herself when she becomes the prey.
MISSION STATEMENT
The film explores themes of abuse, an act behind closed doors that is commonly ignored and has overbearing consequences. We seek to tell a story that shows its long term effect to victims and how it can also spill over to others, and how it effectively destroys bonds when it is not prevented.
